My "cousin" Cindy and I are so alike, it's uncanny. Everyone says so. We've got the same hair, the same face, the same basic personality, the same mannerisms, the same height and even the same style. The only big difference between us is that she's 24, and I'm 14. We're both writers and readers and really into classic rock and the like.
I love talking with her, because we can actually have intelligent conversations about literature. She can match me in Pokemon knowledge, Disney trivia and it's challenging to beat her in Guitar Hero.
We had a great game of it, with her on Expert and me on Medium, because it was my first go using the actual guitar controller, as I've only ever used the Wii Remote.
But I love Cindy, she is the absolute bomb. But that wasn't the highlight of my day.
The highlight was when Dad took me to downtown Ottawa to find him some dressy clothes for the funeral, with a few pit stops at Vertigo Records, Chapters and HMV. Mainly to find Hunky Dory, which I now knew existed somewhere, because Angie had it on vinyl.
Vertigo Records didn't yield any Hunky Dory fruits, but I still walked out of there with The Honey Drippers' Volume 1, Van Halen's 5150, The John Lennon Collection and Motely Crue's Dr. Feelgood on vinyl, as well as 4 used Bowie CDs and GNR's Use Your Illusion II.
In Chapters, I sweet talked Dad into getting me the GOT collection. I think I used the fact that he wouldn't let me get Nikki Sixx's The Heroin Diaries to my advantage.
I walked into HMV with a strict and direct plan: find Hunky Dory. After a quick glance at the t-shirts, I made my way to the bizarrely extensive Bowie selection of CDs. No Hunky Dory, I pulled out 2 albums I didn't have yet. There were others, but I didn't quite want to venture into electro-Bowie before I rounded out my early Bowie. I went to the records, all the while making a point to gag at the JB records that wormed their way in. Nothing except Blackstar, and I'm getting that one last. As I turned around in defeat, there it was! All alone on a display of other rare Bowie CDs that I already had. I did a happy dance right there in the HMV, and totally didn't care about being stared at, because I finally found Hunky Dory!
